That's a creed we live by here at LCM. And it's why our dedicated leadership and world-renowned teachers have devoted their entire lives to nurturing our community of talented students.
Founded in 1940 as The Lancaster Studio of Music by Kathryn Grube, who was succeeded by Dr. Mary B. Vyner. Under Dr. Vyner's stewardship, the school became modeled after the European concept of a conservatory, and hence the name of the institution was changed to the Lancaster Conservatory of Music in 1958.
Dr. Vyner and her husband Louis, a founder and first conductor of the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, were tireless advocates for music education in public schools for all children. After Dr. Vyner's death in 1996, three of her students accepted the challenge of providing guidance for the Conservatory.
As a result, in June of 1996, The Lancaster Conservatory of Music was incorporated as a non-profit educational institution, and a Board of Directors was established to supply day-to-day management as well as plans for continued growth and development.
Today, the Conservatory proudly stands as a living memorial to the Vyner's musical legacy in the Lancaster Community.
To continue to enhance the tradition of The Lancaster Conservatory of Music in affording individuals within our community the opportunity to develop their musical talents to their highest potential.
*Adopted October 23, 1996 by the Board of Directors, Lancaster Conservatory of Music, Inc.
