Attendance Policy

In committing to participate in the Lancaster County Youth Symphony, a student’s attendance at all rehearsals is expected. But at the same time we understand that unexpected absences due to illness, family emergencies, or sudden conflicts with school ensembles, do arise.

Ways to prevent and plan for unexpected absences:
  • Regularly review the school calendar, family calendar and other extracurricular events for the upcoming year and identify potential conflicts in advance.
  • When rehearsal conflicts are identified, discuss them with the Conductor prior to confirming participation in the LCYSO.
  • When possible, contact the Conductor or Orchestra Manager prior to any absence.

If students have more than one absence from rehearsals in preparation for a concert, the board can choose to excuse the student from participating in that concert.

Rehearsal Expectations

  • Arrive 10 minutes prior to rehearsal in order to have a prompt start.
  • Prepare and practice music thoroughly between rehearsals.
  • Bring pencil to each rehearsal (do not rely on a stand partner).

Concert Dress

  • GIRLS: All black (either black slacks and top, black skirt and top, or black dress - skirt/dress below the knee)
  • BOYS: Black suit or black tux, white shirt and appropriate black or dark tie.
